It takes at least five times longer to import with the latest release. Are you TRYING to get folks to switch to photomechanic?

We'd need more details on what version of Lightroom, what OS/version you're running on, where you are importing from, what camera make/model, etc.

This is not directly relevant, but I found Clearing History halved the size of my catalog (1.5GB down to 730MB) which sped up LR. My catalog has 33k images.

To Clear History, which removes all the actions you've done on images and accounts for a large amount of the LR catalog data, go to Grid view in Library, Select-All images, then go to Develop and select Develop > Clear History.

There's lots of data in the Catalog because it stores every possible co-ordinate that you clicked Brush Adjustment, slider, etc for every image you've changed.

As said this isn't directly addressing your problem but did improve general LR responsiveness for me.
