problems with file/open and with file size in opened images.

this is my THIRD attempt at posting this. One more and I am totally done and will get a refund on the product. I have two issues:
1. In all previous versions of photoshop, when you do 'file/open' and are in 'list view' and hover over the file name, a thumbnail shows up. THIS IS NOW GONE. To see the image I now have to either do a preview (very cumbersome) or use thumbnail view, which loads slowly is is also cumbersome. I had a tech guy check out whether this feature is gone via 64 bit versions as well as 32 bit and on a mac as well as pc. It is gone. It needs to come back

2. I no longer can see my file size when I open an image, even though I have file size clicked.

Which version of Photoshop are you using?

Are you talking about the OS provided previews, or the preview that used to be below the OS file view? (which had to be removed in CS6 due to OS requirement changes).

Where were you seeing the file size before that you don't see it now?

And now it (the file size below the image) is working just fine. AARRRGGGHHH. If I sound frustrated, it's because I spent 3 hours on hold yesterday. Anyway, I am using Windows XP, CS6 (32 bit version). I checked with my tech guy and my graphics card, etc. are okay for this. What I was talking about was...when you open an image, there is a line at the bottom showing percentage and in my case, file size (ie: 22mb or whatever). That had disappeared. And now it's back. Go figure.

My other question involves thumbnail views in 'file/open.' Apparently this is now gone. Is this what you are addressing when you talk about OS provided previews? Does 'OS' mean operating system (in my case, XP)? What I was talking about is when you click file, then open and you have a list of your images, you can see them in thumbnails, list, details, icons, etc. I prefer list view since I can see a lot of image names quickly. Before, if I hovered over one of these, a thumnail appeared at the bottom of the gray panel. This is now gone. It will be a pain not to have, truly

That file size comes from the OS, and the OS drives most of the dialog.

Yes, OS means the Operating System.

Looking at your comment, I think you are talking about the preview that used to be below the file view. Is there any chance changes will be made or an update will allow this to come back. It will be incredibly inconvenient not to have it.

Yes, it is less convenient - but both Apple and Microsoft are restricting what we can customize in the file open and save dialogs in the future, and we've started trying to clean out stuff they won't allow.

Also, both OSes provide some thumbnails/previews in the open/save dialogs. But on Windows you may need additional codecs to support all file types (since the OS doesn't support them natively). MacOS supports more file types, but has bugs in their support that provide incorrect previews for some files....
Sometimes, it just seems like you can win with OS vendors.

As they say...it's not a bug. Its a feature...what a shame we all have to jump thru these hoops.
