I would like to see this feature too. Currently, to save an xmp file, click "done". Then re-open the file. A manual save edits button would be nice, as well as the option to auto-save.

I work a few hours editing hundreds of photos before click Done. If power is lost or inadvertently click Esc I lose everything. Premiere has programmable auto-save for the time we want. Because the ACR does not? Another suggestion that I take is the possibility of closing (not editable) or open (editable) an XMP file by clicking a small lock positioned on the thumbnails of the photos.

Why are you loading hundreds of raws at a time into ACR??? That's just asking for trouble.

If you're processing that many images, you really should be using LR. The ACR workflow is so much slower that LR...

Earth, I sure as heck don't want to start using LR's catalog for most of my work. I don't load hundreds at a time—I suspect that would cripple my older computers.  But I have worked on 40-60 at a time often enough, and a slip of kbsc or any other failure does indeed lose all the work done. I definitely have wished it was auto-saved.  If that means a performance hit, make it a preference and I'd accept it.
