Wrong file type because of period

Using photoshop elements 10. Had a project with multiple pages using the same layout. Saved with the title name St. George and the type as PSE. When I went to open it back up later, it said it was the wrong file type. In doing internet research it seems that Photoshop thought I wanted the name to be St and the file type to be "George". It should have given me a warning because now I can't open it back up.

You intentionally replaced the file extension with .George.
Also, you can always rename the file to have the correct extension.

Yes, the characters after the last period in the filename matter on many operating systems.

Went in and changed the name to St george.PSE (removed period after st and placed ".pse" at the end. Now it says it can't open because of a program error. Any ideas how to open it so I can save it correctly.

Because PSE isn't a valid file format extension.

DId you mean PSD or PSB?

Mikael,

The pse file is just a link to a folder of the same name with the original project pages saved as psd files.
