Do you mean Elements 8?

How is the color "totally off"?

And have you checked your display profile? If the display profile is corrupt or doesn't match your current display settings, it would throw off the color displayed in color managed applications (like Photoshop and Elements).

Where to find the display profile depends on which OS (and version of the OS) you are using.

OS is short for Operating System.

What operating system are you using?

What version of that operating system are you using?

1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Display.
2. Click the Settings tab.
3. Click Advanced.
4. Click the Color Management tab.

Unless you have used a hardware calibration device or you are not using a LCD monitor, you don't necessarily need anything listed here. The simplest solution may be to empty this box out.
