Could you make a new feature in Photoshop to work with meshes? At least some simple operations. For example, when you extruded some vector figure it doesn't support making "real" holes in mesh (i.e. for all sides). Of course you can use a transparency map to do it or even export this mesh to real 3D software and manipulate all your needs with the mesh there but why can't you add it to Photoshop?
