Wouldn't it be great if we had an "Load files into Photoshop layers" command to load multiple Camera Raw Smart Object files into layers out of the Camera RAW processing window?

This is a lacking feature that has been frustrating me for years!!...  I often need 20-40 raw layers in a single file but I have to open and drag each of them, one by one, into a single doc.  I would probably cry if I new how many hours I've lost making up for the lack of this simple feature.

A semi-auto method, once the multiple images have been opened into Photoshop CC2018 from ACR, use the File > Scripts > Load Files Into Stack command and press the Add Open Files button.

Bridge CC2018 can use the Tools > Photoshop > Load Files Into Layers command on raw images.

Thanks Stephen, but you'll have to teach me your magic - neither approach works or have ever worked for me on raw files in any version of PSP.  I've experimented with both these approaches for years, so what am I missing?

1.  The Load Files into Stack script only works on files that have been saved.  If raw files are opened from Bridge to PSP (or opened directly in PSP),  select the Load Files into Stack script, select Add Open Files btn - PSP always responds "Docs must be saved to be merged".

2.  Tools > Photoshop > Load Files Into Photoshop Layers from Bridge never keeps the layers as raw images and there's no option that anywhere that enables raw layers.

I missed the part that the final result should be a smart object, I thought that the issue was the raw file as source.

So no magic, only hacks:

1) File > Open as Smart Object, select multiple raws
2) ACR workflow options set to open as smart object
3) Open objects into Photoshop as separate files, each image will be a raw smart object
4) Window > Arrange > Tile...
5) Using the move tool, shift drag smart object layer images from one file to another

or

1) Bridge > Tools > Photoshop > Load Files Into Photoshop Layers
2) Convert each separate layer into a smart object
3) Relink each separate layer to the raw file, Layer > Smart Objects > Relink to File

Both methods will retain the raw smart object, however they do require some manual work. Some steps may be semi-automated via actions and I’m sure a script could do better.

There are probably existing scripts for this task if you look hard enough, I’m just winging it.

This is what I came up with back in 2010, however that was centred around the batch creation of single Smart Object layer raw camera data images:
