The new release of ACR (7.2) is available. If I install this new version, will it cause Bridge to rebuild the thumbs/previews?

Would Adobe please describe the rules by which Bridge uses to rebuild the previews. Is this camera-specific? How can a user know if bridge will choose to rebuild previews? This can get very tediously slow when attempting to use Bridge as an archive browser.

Updating to 7.2 will not cause any extra preview rebuilds. The only preview rebuild I expect to be caused by the 7.2 update would be previews of RAW files from cameras that were not supported in previous versions of Camera Raw. If you observe otherwise, please let us know.

There are other reasons why Bridge may rebuild previews that don't have anything to do with the Camera Raw being updated--folders for which the cache has been purged, or folders browsed originally with the prefer-embedded-previews option then re-browsed with the high-quality option. Another thing that can cause previews to regenerate is if you browsed files previous to changing your Camera Raw defaults; re-browsing those files with new defaults will rebuild previews for files that do not have explicit settings (edits you made in the Camera Raw dialog and saved, in most cases, in sidecar files), but this would also happen if you re-browsed the files with 7.1 before updating to 7.2.

The way to check this is to make sure that before the update you browse a folder with 7.1 installed, make sure all thumbs and previews are generated by 7.1, then update to 7.2 and browse the same folder. If Bridge doesn't rebuild previews for that folder (and I don't think it will), but does for other folders, then the preview rebuilding is most likely not caused by the ACR update but by something else.
