Will not save a 2.3gb file as a Tiff. Photoshop thinks it is over 4gb and I have saved files like this in the past with no problem, but with new update I have this problem.

Try saving with zip compression (it's lossless)

Hi Randy, how do you know what the file size if you cannot save it? Have you tried saving it as a PSB? (Large Photoshop Document)

I can save it as a PSB, it is not over 4gb and this has just started the past 3 weeks.

Hi Randy,

We attempted to reproduce your error and didn't have trouble saving large files such as yours on CC2018. More information would be helpful.

Are you on Mac or Windows? Second, can I get a file that you were working on that wouldn't save?

Thanks,
Hannah Nicollet

I tried this for fun. I opened a 799MB TIF and up-sampled the file and added layers until it was 3.08 GB. I was able to produce the error as you see below. PS says the file is over 4GB, which it is not. At 2.79GB it did save. Results below.

Got this error after 22 seconds (file save was at 95% in 8 seconds then it sat and thought about it for 14 seconds before the error popped up:

Then I deleted two layers until it was 2.79 GB. Saved as TIF no problem. Uncompressed. Saved in 6 seconds.

PS 2018

Are you getting file-size info from the photoshop dialogue, or from Finder? I've found the photoshop dialogue does not always accurately predict the size of my photo.

It looks like they do register a little differently. 2.79 vs 3.08. So my larger file that failed may have been over 4GB in finder while reporting 3.something in PS. Quite possible.
