Will a copy match up to the original document when overlaid?

I would like to know if an original document is scanned, saved for a few years then printed out, will the copy match up to the original, line for line word for word if overlaid on each other. Provided it hasn’t been manipulated during this process of transfer and storage of course.
If so why? or, if not why? I am certain documents should match up, but how to explain it, or better yet prove it.

They should match fairly closely.
But the color could vary with the scanner, there will be variations due to position and rotation, plus the aging of the document.
But by matching the color and position in Photoshop, you should be able to compare the documents relatively well - if you had good quality scans in both cases.
