Lightroom: Why doesn't Lightroom preserve the transparency aspect of a ".psd" file

Why doesn't lightroom 4 preserve the transparency aspect of a ".psd" file or import ".png" files as well with it's transparency abilities too?

Use PNG instead. Lightroom can only read the composite (flat) image data from a PSD.
