Lightroom: Why does my screen go black and then come back to the image I'm editing?

I just upgraded to Lightroom 4 and while I am using it, it occasionally turns to a black screen and returns to the program in about 15 sec. I had just upgraded to 6GB of RAM so should have enough of that.

Do you have the 4.2 update? What OS/version?

OS Windows 7. I don't have the 4.2 version. I just upgraded to Lightroom 4 this past week. I will download the update to the upgrade if you think this fixes the problem. Also at one point I got an error message that said I don't have enough memory but haven't seen that message again. I have 6GB of RAM and 100GB free on my hard drive. That should be enough, shouldn't it? Thx.

Yeah. 6GB and 100GB free should be good. Let us know if 4.2 doesn't solve the problem.

I'd also make sure your video card driver is up to date by going directly to the manufacturers website.

I am seeing this screen (LR not desktop) complete re-draw, when editing TIFF files, both LR 4.2 and now LR 4.3RC.

The WHOLE LR UI got black and redraws.

Hi Ron, Windows 8 does have some known video driver issues. I suspect nVidia will have some updates for Win 8 in the near future which should fix this.

Its always a possibility that it is a driver issue. I would lean towards if the entire desktop wigged out. But it is within the client window created by LR. So drawing msgs are handled by LR and I would think the probability of error is there. I dislike software companies pushing the issue to 'the other guy' before root cause is determined.

Can you provide the specific card you have and what specific drivers you've tried? If you provide more specific information I can ask our QE team to try and repro. Without that information, I can only provide general troubleshooting steps.

This was my original problem and it was suggested I download the latest update (4.2) and that seemed to fix the problem.
