Photoshop: Why do files take so long to open or save in Photoshop CS 5.1 on Mac OSX 10.9? (Adobe Drive installed)

Recently I upgraded to the Mavericks OS but I'm having issues with Photoshop CS 5.1. When I try to open files, whether it be PSDs or PNGs, it takes minutes to load. Previous to the Mavericks upgrade, these same files would take seconds, if that.

I have the same problem when saving files. When I save a file, it will take a minute or two to finish the save, whereas it used to take seconds before the OS upgrade.

The files will always open and save when I ask them to, it just takes a really long time to do so. I've tried Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. All have the same opening and saving issue.

Tech Specs:
Late 2011 MBP
2.2 GHz Core i7
16 GB RAM
OS X 10.9
Adobe CS 5.1

Go the Photoshop file handling preferences and see if Adobe Drive is enabled. If it is enabled, uncheck the box to disable it then quit and re-launch the application.

You need to remove adobe drive (if possible) from your system. My best advice would be to go to your Users & Groups settings in the OS System Preferences, choose your current user, then check the Login Items. My guess is that Adobe Drive is set as a startup item and that you can disable or remove it from the list. Then restarting your system should fix AI and ID.
