Lightroom/Photoshop: Why don't all dng files open in camera raw automatically?

Wondering why sometimes when I open dng files from lightroom to photoshop, only some open in camera raw. Others go straight to photoshop.
Still assessing my preference, but I think I would prefer ALL raw images to open first in camera raw.
My workaround has been to open as smart object in photoshop, then apply a camera raw filter. But this doesn't seem like the best method.
Thank You

DNG is a file format that can hold raw data, but also RGB data. Photoshop can open an RGB DNG without the need of Camera Raw, and so it does.

Right, a DNG doesn’t automatically equal raw. Depending on what actual data is contained in the DNG and the ACR prefs, it may or may not open there.

Hello, j'ai une question, d'où proviennent vos fichiers. dng ? (in Google english down....)

Hello, I have a question, where from come your files. dng?

- A raw converted in .dng (resolution Adobe)
- A raw raw coming from one will dope always recording raw in files. dng as iPad or the last iPhones?

And for Johan, where from could come a .dng opening directly CameraRaw coming from LR Classic?

Because if they change Raw in PS since LR, this one will open directly in PS without passing by CameraRaw because it is the regulatings of development defined in LR that are applied before opening PS.

If since LR Classi they open the raw As topen layer smart object, in PS, ilssufit to click on the vignette of tracing paper so that this tracing paper opens in CameraRaw and so that regulatings made in LR Classic are shown on cursors and still allow to be changed.

"IF" you are sending  DNG files to PS from LR Classic NONE of them should open in Camera RAW.
"IF" you are using Bridge or your Operating Systems file manager to open DNG files, IMHO, All of them should open in Adobe Camera RAW first.

Can you please state what you are using to send/open images in PS?
Can you upload one of each of these DNG files that do open in camera RAW and one that doesn't to someplace like Dropbox and post a public link to them?

Yes, after reading this again I have to agree. If the DNG file is sent from Lightroom to Photoshop (via the ‘Edit in’ menu) like the OP says, it should never open in Camera Raw, regardless of whether it contains raw data or rgb data.If it is opened in Photoshop another way, it will invoke Camera Raw, even if it does contain rgb data. I think the OP either does not remember this correctly, or else he sometimes exports as DNG and then opens the exported image in Photoshop.
