Photoshop CC 2015: Why doesn't the library object open in the application that created it?

I would think, that if I double click on of of the new library objects in photoshop, that was created in illustrator it would open the asset up in illustrator. Instead, I get an error message saying "This item isn't directly editable in Photoshop, but it can be placed in the document. To place this item, drag it into an open document."

If I right click on the object, and select edit original I get the same error message.

My use case is creating Icon sheets for my iOS app, and it would be IDEAL if I could use/edit vector objects in illustrator where the tools for vector objects are much more robust. And it would be my hope, that this is just something that couldn't be finished before shipping CC 2015, and will be fixed sometime in the very near future.

-Turns out this works when you option drag the asset into the document, but this should the default behavior.

Please see this document for how to disable pasted content as linked library asset:

Linked library asset workflow is something we hope to improve in a future update.
