PHOTOSHOP CC: Why can't I change tools?

This afternoon I did a content-aware move in a photo, and now I cannot change ANY of the tools; the menus don't drop down, and repeatedly hitting the shortcut keys does nothing. I don't think an upgrade occurred during the action but an not sure. What to do?

Hi Andrew,

Okay, let me see if I can help you.

First, does the application freeze or do the shortcuts quit working?  Can you do other actions via a mouse?

Second, do you get this problem every time you try to do a Content Aware Fill?  Or did it happen just once?  Does it happen with just one file or with any file?

Third, are you using any third-party pointing devices such as a mouse, trackball, or tablet?  I ask because often these devices co-opt keyboard input.  It's important if you have any of these to make sure you have the very latest drivers.

Let's start with these.  I'm available to do a web-hosted screenshare to get to the bottom of this problem.

Thanks,
David

It is working ok now. I could not use the tools at all, and I could not switch from one to another in the same drop-down menu. For some reason, it is okay now. Microsoft did a Windows update earlier in the afternoon; could that have been the problem? But I wouldn't have expected it to clear up without deleting the update.

In response to your questions, no, content aware fill has been working fine--and I use it a lot. Yes, the same problem existed with any of several photos.

Yes, I use a mouse most of the time, and the driver is up-to-date.

I will contact you if it ever happens again.
