That's a bit of a problem since it's not recorded in a consistent or human-readable way.

That's not completely true -- EXIF (2.3 anyway, I didn't look at older versions) allows for encoding of white balance using the WhiteBalance and LightSource tags. WhiteBalance records only either Auto or Manual, while LightSource can encode fixed settings including Daylight, Fluorescent, Tungsten/Incandescent, Flash, Fine Weather, Cloudy Weather, Shade, etc. There are 21 possible values including "Other".

Does the OP want the original camera value translated into this, or the value selected in Lightroom's Develop module? The question seems to indicate the former, but this doesn't make much sense to me. The camera's value is irrelevant when exporting from Lightroom, unless the file format is Original (in which case it makes sense just to copy the tags from the original file).

I agree: this feature-request/idea needs to be clarified.

White balance info may or may not be in the metadata. If it is in the metadata, it may or may not be in a form that is useful to you.

Why don't you clarify the question, include:
* exactly what you are trying to accomplish,
* whether you need original exif info, or develop setting..

I am assuming you are talking about the metadata of exported files. A confirmation about that would be worthwhile too.

so I/we can give you a better answer.
