Photoshop Elements: Missing Effects Presets

I'm a PSE 9, as well as a photo edit newbie, using a Mac 10.5 OS. Last week, when I loaded PSE9 into the computer, there were several green apples in the Edit > Full > Effects panel. The apples are now gone, rendering that panel inopperable. I've restarted the computer, restarted the program, moved the panels, but unable to restore the green apples effects demo panel. Any ideas where it may have gone and how I can get it back?
Thanks,

Each of those green apples is a preview to a given effect from that panel. If they are missing, most likely the picture files have been deleted (they are JPEGs stored within the application). The only way to bring them back if they have been deleted is to reinstall the application.

There is a chance that something else is going on, but this is the most likely culprit.
