When the new update was installed photoshop shuts down within a short time of opening the program.

I went from the free trial to a paying subscription and since the update I have not been able to use photoshop since the recent update. I reinstalled the app and it will stop working shortly after opening.

I am using windows 7 and it says it stopped working and then closes.

Check the Windows event viewer to get more details on the crash (like the name of the faulting module).
