Lightroom CC 2015.6.1: When the app window loses focus in OS X, the app becomes unresponsive and I have to Force Quit

If LR becomes a background task in OS X for any length of time, the app stops working and is unresponsive when the focus returns to Lightroom. (spinning beach ball).  It is necessary at this point to "Force Quit" LRCC and restart the app.

Other problems that were fixed in LRCC2015.x have also returned with 2015.6.1

  • Annoyed. One step forward, two steps back. Adobe really needs to get its act together. LRCC2015.x has been the worst relies in terms of egregious bugs since I started using LR2.x

Can you post your Lightroom>System Info... please? Try turning off the GPU acceleration from the Lightroom Preferences dialog.

Here is the SysInfo.  I will turn off GPU to see if there is an effect and report back.   I don't think GPU is a factor since the App is in the Library mode and there are no (new) develop adjustments being computed.

It could be a GPU driver issue. Can you also try to disable the 3rd party plug-ins via Lightroom's plug-in manager to see if it helps?

On a Mac: I would give it the "once over": Run Onyx (it's OS specific, run everything), Reboot to an external drive and run Disk Warrior (alsoft.com). Unplug everything and try it again. Also, check the logs in Console right after LR crashes for clues.

Same issue here :-(

I just turned off the GPU acceleration from the Lightroom Preferences dialog and I will let you know if there is any improvement.

For example, tonight I just sign out from adobe ID and signed in again to activate my CC subscription, in the meanwhile Lightroom got stuck. It was not doing any tasks ! Lightroom was supposed to be idle !

This behaviour is really annoying, sometimes it happens when I start an import session, go to use another app and when I come back to Lightroom I just see the colourful wheel. Have to force quit and search for the new imported pictures because in the crash they were not added to the Collection.

So sad to see that I have such a powerful machine... not beeing used to it's full capabilities.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled LR freezes after being open for too long.

After the 2015.6.1 update, LR has developed an issue wherein after an extended period of being open (or possibly after my computer wakes from sleep), it either freezes completely and needs to be forced to quit or slows down to the point of being unusable.  By that, I mean that inputs either from keyboard or mouse take between five and ten seconds to go through.  Other programs are fine.  Force-quitting and restarting LR gets rid of the problem.

Computer details:
OSX 10.10.5
iMac 27-inch, mid-2011
3.1 GHz Intel Core i5
24GB DDR3 RAM
Lightroom running on internal SSD
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024MB

Not sure the exact version it started, but I've been experiencing similar behavior since one of the most recent updates - 2015.6 or 2015.6.1.

Difference is, I'm on Windows 10 and Lr doesn't just become sluggish, it's completely unresponsive and has to be killed through Task Manager.  To work around it, I just started closing Lr when I knew I'd be away from my computer for extended periods of time.  Inconvenient, but not the end of the world for me.

Since I posted my initial post, I updated LRCC to 2015.7 and a day later upgraded my OS to Sierra.  I no longer am experiencing the problem.

So, since my post, I used Lightroom and also let it in the background a few times.
I did not experience any blocking anymore.

I used ONYX to cleanup and restore the disk structure, as Carlos Cardona proposed.

After a while I turned the GPU acceleration on again.
At this time, no freezing.

Well, was I only lucky or is there something related to OS X ? Can Adobe improve something ?

You are welcome! I run Onyx before ANY upgrade (no matter how small), or at least once per month.
