Lightroom 5 freezing and crashing

LR 5 freezes and crashes. In develop mode, the develop tools grayed out and I couldn't use them. Importing, even small batches, std previews slow and then freeze. In fact, entire program freezes. You cannot load in the background and go work on something. I have had difficulty selecting more than one photo, have not been able to click on a photo in grid mode to get one photo, cannot enlarge with a click on the photo going from grid to one photo, cannot select more than one folder to move photos to a folder. The catalog dies (frozen with zero previews showing) at 3000 images and so I have tried to remake a catalog, but it will not. All previews slow to load when opening program and most times I have to force quit this program because it's stuck. I've run disc utility, not the problem. (Mac user)

Are you using 5.0 or 5.2RC?

Have you reset your preferences?
Have you reinstalled?

Horrible program... read my next response. If reloading a program would fix it, wrong!

Reloaded and all set to send this program straight to the trash... can't get the program to open...has cache issues and attempts to repair itself on relaunch and about a dozen attempts at that, it is totally gone, You can't even make a new catalog.... all grayed out. I WANT MY MONEY BACK... I will rather go back to using the previous version. I don't consider myself an occasional user. I've taken 3 courses in Lightroom and pretty knowledgeable on the uses of this program. The Adobe person who responded to my amazon review offered to give me a fix, that is if I had a pc, but I'm working on mac.... read the reviews on amazon. I'm not alone with these problems.

Plenty of people have trouble getting it to run properly, but even more run it with few or no problems. I suppose this is obvious now, but I can't help but say anyway: in the future, consider running the trial before buying.

So.

I asked but you didn't say which version you were loading 5.0 or 5.2RC. It can make a difference in how to proceed.

I also asked and you also didn't say if you attempted to reset your preference file. This fixes many strange issues with LR. http://www.lightroomforums.net/showth...

LR runs just fine on my two Macs. Obviously there is something else at play here.

Sorry 5.0 (checked fort updates, none available). I set my preferences up but did not reset them, using the suggested preferences of Chris Orwig a la Lynda.com, running on mac 10.7.5
