Words cannot express how aggravated I am using this product on Windows... nothing but problems. In class on macs it is so easy. However I cannot afford mac... I got a sony vaio and all Lightroom, CS6, Word, and security software for less than the mac alone!! Having said all that (venting) why does my screen flicker like an epileptic seizure (black, checkerboard, grey) when using marque tool for lesson 1 CIB (Santa Monica College), and why does it go to black when I attempt a straight line photo correction as instructed lesson 2 @ #5 p52 CIB?
At no time does this happen on school gear. I am not the most computer literate; however the above should not happen ever on any computer (New... built last Dec. purchased last Feb) Even lightroom gave me such problems I have vowed not to use it if at all possible from now on. Did apple people design the windows application of Adobe products or is it a glitch in my particular copy(s)? This is a sensitive issue with me. For a whole semester a particular computer at school refused to turn on, no matter how much my neighbors coached me; for them it turned on no problem. That has nothing to do with (I hope) this problem but indicates what happens with me and computers.

Screen flicker on Windows 8 is due to a bug in Windows itself.
You can work around it by updating your video card driver from the GPU maker's website, or setting the Photoshop GPU mode to "Basic". Your school gear may have different GPUs and updated drivers compared to your personal system, or be running an older version of Windows that doesn't contain the bug.
