I used Photoshop Album for some time, adding tags and making collections. I can no longer activate the product. Have I lost all of my work?

Photoshop Album Starter Edition has reached the end of it's production life. Photoshop.com is it's replacement as a free image organizer and editor. Photoshop Elements and Lightroom are it's paid upgrades.

For full details, including how to migrate your work out of Photoshop Album, please review cpsid_87065.

Photoshop offered you the free version to store your photo's, you accepted and have been using the software. As Photoshop says. Adobe Photoshop album Starter 3.2 is outdated. I believe Photoshop should help you, and give you a code to retrieve your photo's. Dear Photoshop it would be a great offer to give her a copy of PSE7 or 8, it would please  Lily Afshar and you might find that she will upgrade eventually.

My photos are locked in Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 and I did not receive an unlock code, I have had this problem for some time. I purchased PSE7 which has failed me also and now I can no longer find my PSE software. I am hesitant about buyin the PSE11 and do not know what to do about my photos that are locked in the Starter 3.2???

For locating the actual photos on your computer's hard drive, you might try looking in the following:

Open the My Pictures folder, see if there is a Adobe folder in there. If there is, check for folders with dates on them, inside these are generally the actual images.

This is where they get typically get stored when transferred using the Photo Downloader process.

Searching the hard drive for image files like described in the doc Brett referenced also works.

Hi Beth,

All of the Elements Organizer versions, free Starter Edition included, don't actually store the pictures themselves inside the software, but rather a thumbnail and link/shortcut to where the actual picture is actually stored on the computers hard drive. The actual pictures themselves could potentially be stored in many different places. (You could think of the catalog of images inside of the software like being similar to the Start Menu on a Windows computer, or Dock on Mac, the names and icons are not the actual programs themselves but rather a link/pointer to where they really are). If you regularly used the Adobe software to transfer photos from a camera to the computer, you might check in the My Pictures location I described with my previous post. If you don't find them there, then I would try searching the entire hard drive for all images. The document that Brett posted at the top includes instructions for doing this. I hope this helps :)

Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 -- whenever registration attempted received message saying trial, which was never started, has already expired and program no longer available, yet this unsolicitied application continues to download photos and automatically store them in a locked folder which cannot be accessed. This annoying situation does not encourage one to look favourably upon purchasing other Photoshop products -- so automatically including it in a computer package this way is actually counter productive.

David,
I actually have the files backed up on CDs (from the time that I used the free Photoshop) and need to get them to my Elements 6. I tried to use the Restore function on Elements but it wouldn't work. I also tried the Convert which didn't work either.
The computer the originals were on has long passed on, and I am trying to get all my photos on external hard drives.
Thanks so much for your help.

I used Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 and I just downloaded all our vacation pictures into it. It automatically came up when I went to download the pictures from my camera. After I downloaded them and erased the pictures off the chip the program asked me to register which I did. I got an email back from you saying that the program was no longer supported and I needed to go to Photoshop. My question is how do I get my pictures out of the Starter Edition and move them to Photoshop? Thank you for your help.

I KNOW, BUT AT LEAST THE NEXT TIME YOU HAVE IMAGES IN AN ALBUM ON-LINE, THEY WON'T PULL THE RUG FROM UNDER YOUR FEET!! THE ALBUM IS ALWAYS THERE ON YOUR PC

Read David's post. The files *are* stored on your PC, and Starter Edition just stores a thumbnail and the location of the file on your computer:

I believe my puter came with Adobe Photoshop Album Started (free version) which worked very well for me. My puter crashed and I used a Windows XP restore disk. I lost everything including Photoshop. I suppose that version is no longer available? Can I please get it back?

Photoshop Album Starter Edition is no longer available. You could try Photoshop Elements 10 ($99 US) or Photoshop.com's Express Editor and Organizer which are free.

I have photos in Adobe photoshop album starter edition 3.2. I had not used the computer for some time that edition 3.2 is in. When I tried to retrieve the photos from 3.2 I was asked to register that edition of photoshop, but when I tried I was told 3.2 was no longer available that I would need to get adobe photoshop elements 9. I purchased elements 9 but still can't get the original photos in 3.2 unlocked so i can retrieve the photos. What do I need to do to unlock starter edition 3.2 to allow me to get the original photos out of there. After installing elements 9 it copied the album names but no photos. Thanks in advance Patrick Hiddleston

I have followed and done everything I can do. Open elements, sign in click organize, select file catalog click convert button, etc.... I have downloaded some new pictures into photoshop.com. I don't have an Adobe account, or if I did, I have no idea what my password or ID was. I give up, but thanks anyway. I have now spent 3 hours trying.

I'm a bit fuzzy on what you getting at here. It sounds like you've successfully converted your catalog (but from what to what, I do not know). How are you "downloading" (uploading) images to Photoshop.com if you do not have an account? Are you doing it from Photoshop Elements? If you don't know your password, just use the Forgot Password like on the log-in page. Your ID should be your email address.
