Have PE5 and now have bought PE#10. Want to put #10 on new laptop, but was bought as a upgrade. Does it have to be put with PE#5 copy to work, or will it stand alone ok.

You can install and activate Photoshop Elements on two of your personal computers (Mac or Windows).

If you're installing an upgrade version, the prior version does not need to be installed on the computers you want to install on - though you may be asked for your prior version serial number during the installation process.

If you have your serial #, you can download an installer for the current version of Elements from here: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/photoshop-elements-downloads.html

Instructions for downloading older versions of Adobe apps here: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/downloaded-older-app.html

If you don't remember your serial # but you've registered your product, you can sign into adobe.com and access your serial #s here: https://account.adobe.com/products

If you've lost an activation because of a hardware failure and the system no longer runs, go to this page and work with a chat agent. They should be able to restore your activation: https://www.adobe.com/about-adobe/contact.html

I purchased Elements 12 i believe last April (2014) and recently got a new computer. The elements was only installed on one computer which means i should be able to re-install it onto this new one also. However I can't seem to find the download link or whatever i need to re-install although i do have the Code that came when buying the product. So any help?

This is not the answer I'm looking for.
It's not about deactivating my Windows computer. It 's about ACTIVATING Elements 12 on my iMac

Please read the official answer at the top.

You can find installers for Elements 7 through 13 here: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/other-...

Your serial # will work for either the Mac or Windows version.

I just got off of a chat with them trying to install PE 15 on my Mac Pro as a second computer and they first said I would have to deactivate my windows program and they would give me another serial number that would work for both. then they came back and said I would have to purchase another license for the Mac???

I don't know if you can or cannot purchase a license for an Elements product that allows you to install on both Windows and Mac—I only see Windows OR Mac in the Buy Now section. It would be a special license, though, that you paid for originally—perhaps businesses do that.

Except for Creative Cloud apps, you normally purchase your platform and get two installs for that platform with one serial number. It was only with the Creative Cloud and the way our license for that works that Adobe made it possible for us to install on both platforms or on 2 computers with one platform.

So while Chat was obviously a bit confused, their final response is, I believe, the right response. You bought the Windows version, so can use it on 2 Windows computers. OR you should be able to ask Customer Service to transfer your license one time to Macs—they used to allow us to switch the platform we used, and I would assume they still do.

It's a pity. I think they should make it like the Creative Cloud—2 licenses, any computer, at least if you choose the download option instead of a DVD, since so many people own 2 computers and run 2 platforms—I know I did for quite some time.

Thanks for your reply. The "license for an Elements product that allows you to install on both Windows and Mac" is what the chat person told me I needed and told me to "deactivate" my PE and Premier while they got my needed license... Then came back and said sorry, you will have to buy a separate license... I think they should make this more clear in the purchasing process and I intend to contact the complaint dept. about it. Oh I would've bought it anyway; but that's not the issue... I did not know about your suggestion to "transfer license" to another platform and I may look into that since my Mac actually has more processing power than the desktop windows machine although it is a very powerful machine with a high end video card. Do you know where to direct me to find out about transferring the license to the Mac OS? Also do you know if PE and Premiere works well with the Mac OS? Thanks

It would be better if Adobe Chat knew about licensing, I'll give you that. '-}   When purchasing, Adobe appears to rely on the fact that you buy according to your platform as their indicator that your license is restricted to it, whereas the Creative Cloud doesn't require you to choose a platform in advance. It certainly wouldn't hurt to put what the license covers in their product description before you purchase.

> Do you know where to direct me to find out about transferring the license to the Mac OS?>

I did that many years ago and had to call Customer Service to do it. I can't promise you it's still possible, but I'm pretty sure they would be the only ones who could walk you through whatever has to be done in order to switch from Windows to Mac. Explain to them you had been misled into thinking you would be able to run one license on both platforms, and it was only after installing on Windows that you discovered you couldn't then also install on Mac.  1 (800) 833-6687  That's the number Google displays.

As for running Elements on Mac, yes, it works quite well in general. There can always be specific issues with any individual OS and/or your graphics card and other hardware, but that's no different from Windows. When picking whether or not to stay with Windows or try to switch to Mac, pay attention to available RAM and scratch disk space, and check that your video card is both compatible and has enough VRAM for the features. Check with Help online or the PDF manual (if you've downloaded it) to learn more about scratch disk space if you don't already know, and you may have to do a bit of googling to be sure your hardware both Mac and Windows is fully supported. These features will typically be more important than processor speed.

Good luck.

Eventually, my Vaio laptop crashed and I was able to restore it but now I can't re-enter PSE 12 onto my PC laptop. It wont't take the PSE CODE...is there a way to reinstall PSE in my Vaio? If so, how? ~ s.g.

I had originally purchased Photoshop Elements 9 (I think it was.). The computer it was on just failed to start up for me one day and despite the attempts made by a shop tec, they couldn't get it to start up. I now have a new computer and would like to reinstall the program. I have no idea how to do this. Be advised that I'm not very well versed in this technology (I'm an old fart.) , computers that is, so be gentle with me. Thanks.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Can't reinstall Photoshop elements 12 on my new laptop (mac).

Bought a new laptop last month and copied al my data via an external hard drive.
Everything looked the same as on my old laptop, only I couldn't open photoshop elements 12 anymore. A red icon called 'Photoshop elements pdapp' opened and closed very quick.

I decided to manually throw everything away to the bin and reinstall the whole program.
When I insert the disc and click on 'instal' I get an error saying:'The installation programme can't initialate. Download Adobe Support Advisor to see what's wrong'.
Only the adobe support adviser seems to have been discontinued, and I'm stuck with no sollution.

When I downloaded the program via this link: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/photoshop-elements-downloads.html I got exactly the same problem.

Can anyone help me?

Just copying over the application folder doesn't copy over the licensing files. You'll need to reinstall Elements 12 to make sure all the required files are in place and the application is properly licensed.

Uninstalling does not 'deactivate' your license.
You deactivate (now it's called: signing out) by using the menu Help >> Sign out.
That tells the activation server that your license is no longer used for your hardware, and is free to be applied to another computer.
If you did not 'sign out' and the computer is no longer available, your only choice is to use the 'Contact Us' link which gives you the possibility to get an Adobe employee by chat.
