Photoshop: Weird Batch problem

I have a batch problem with PS CS5. When I set a couple of dng files to be batch saved as tiffs, an image I did not select opens in ACR, and no matter what I do, whether I save the image or click on 'Done', the batch process then aborts. I can even get the same renegade image to load by opening PS and not opening any specific image, just going to Automate > Batch and selecting Save as Tiff. I sometimes get the error message that PS cannot save the image to a no longer existing location on my hard disk. Is there any way of resetting the Batch queue? And why on earth is ACR coming up? I use LR as my main image editor; I haven't opened an image via ACR for years!

Do you have "Override Action 'Open' Commands" enabled in your Batch?

Have you tried restoring your prefs? http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/201...

Are you on Mac or Win? (OS/version)
