Lightroom: A checkmark I can click in the clone/heal, adjustment brushes to save current settings

The way LR has always worked with clone/heal, adjustments, etc up there is that you choose your slider settings and then do the work on the image. This procedure saves the slider settings you chose BEFORE you start using the tool.

WANT: I want to make the tool settings changes and then click a checkmark or something to set them for the next use instead of me trying to remember to set them from whatever I might have used last time.

Just something there to tell LR to "save these slider settings". I don't want to have LR simply remember what was last used BEFORE I started using the tool.

I agree, it'd be a welcome feature

Can you elaborate more on "set them for the next use instead of me trying to remember"?
Whatever is the Slider values it is preserved across sessions. So, you should be able to use it next time.
Or are you talking about separating sliders for Clone and Heal.

Here's repro steps:

  1. Select Develop module
  2. choose adjustment brush
  3. move Exposure to +4.0
  4. brush on photograph
  5. while brush pin remains selected, move Exposure to -4.0
  6. move to next image in filmstrip with or without closing the adjustment subpanel
  7. choose the adjustment brush in the subpanel and see the exposure has reset to +4.0 which was what you chose prior to brushing and all adjustment modifications you made to the pin after are not preserved.
I'd like a way to save the current brush settings instead of going with whatever I pre-chose before doing the work.

Side note: is it just me or is 8.4 considerably slower than last release? LR is now constantly beachballing for me and stuttering. Hitting R to bring up the crop tool is a 2-4 second pause. GPU coding? (just double-checked to make sure I'm not mistaken and hit R on a HDR DNG and the crop bar view took 14 seconds. (8700K / 64GB / 1TB nvme SSD / Radeon VII 16GB)

Based on this recipe - I've always wished there was a way for it to retain the settings(the new settings that were made i.e. -4.0). What I do when I get caught out with this, is to create a temporary local adjustment preset, if I'd made loads of adjustments and wanted to use them on the next image but this is long-winded.

That happens because you did NOT make any adjustments with the brush set at -4. If you had then the -4 would have stuck.

-4 is the adjustment and that’s the point of the OP’s post, that he wants -4 to stick and not the adjustment that was set before the brush stroke but all the other adjustments that were made after the stroke. This can be up to 6, let’s say, and moving to another photo only gives the one adjustment of +4(which was made before brushing)

So a "set defaults" button, essentially, rather than it picking the pre-adjustment settings as the local slider defaults?

I hear this request more for local adjustments than for the spot tool, simply because there's more sliders to adjustment. I'd extend it slightly to allow different defaults for each tool, rather than brush/gradient/radial all sharing the same defaults.

I’d say(based on the OP’s request and what I’d love) it’s more of a “Retain Last brush settings used/ applied” . At the moment, it remembers the settings before the brush was applied and not the settings of what was last applied.

A “set defaults” option would be great, too.
