Virtual Copies not added to Collection when created in Collection

Since updating to LRC CC 8.0, I've noticed that if you create a Virtual Copy within a collection or album, the Virtual Copy is not added to that collection/album.

You must go to the "All Photographs" album in order to see the Virtual Copy. This really breaks up a workflow and occurs in both Library and Develop views.

The app also does not present any UI that the Virtual Copy has even been created.

That’s been like that for a while, you just noticed it in LR 8. Really annoying, right?

No, that has not been like that for a while, at least not on my Mac version of Lightroom Classic 8. If I create a virtual copy while I am in a collection, that virtual copy shows up in that collection. Just like it should. Check that you have not filtered on original files.

You're right, I was doing the virtual copy in the folder. But it was still something weird, like it wouldn't export? Or print? I'm trying to remember!

I've just noticed this as well. When you select attributes while in a collection, you can click the button and it shows on screen that masters & virtual copies will be displayed, but no virtual copy appears. Return to All photographs and the virtual copies appear. What is even stranger is that when in a collection you select the virtual copy only button, the photo I have made a virtual copy of does not appear. LR Classic v. 8.0

Which button? The buttons I show in the screenshot are for either originals or virtual copies. There is no button that shows both (but you can click both buttons).

Can you give us your exact steps please Graham? And go to Help menu > System Info to grab the exact LR version and OS please? That will hopefully offer some clues.

I don't see a response from Graham, but I'm experiencing the same issue.  I'm working in a collection set (That may be the problem) - in this case most all the photos are jpgs though it can happen with raws as well.  I select one or more images and right click on one and select Create Virtual Copy from the menu.  Can be in either Library or Develop modules.  The film strip may shift a bit, but no new images are added to the collection.  No filters are applied as to which images I'm seeing.  If I go back to the source folder for the images, the virtual copies are there.  Then I have to manually add them to the collection. (They show up fine in the collection after this.)  This just started happening   in the last few weeks.  I did upgrade to a new 2019 iMac from the 2015 version, but it was happening on the old one as well. Same OS version.  Not sure when the last Lightroom Classic update was applied, but I try to keep up to date on those unless I see a warning from you not to.  Thanks for your help.

If you have a Collection Set selected than a Virtual copies is not placed in a collection.  Lightroom does not know which collection to place the virtual copy.

Thanks. - I'm now dropping to the individual collection when creating virtual copies.  That seems to work fine.
