Viewing photos in Lightroom

I have Lightroom 6/CC and Windows 10. I find it very odd that when shooting with JPEG + Raw, only the raw images appear in Lightroom (with a JPEG sidecar?) and when I view in explorer . . . the raw file (ORF) cannot be viewed by the windows photo reader. Isn't Windows 10 able to view a raw file? Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

ORF files are Olympus raw files correct? Windows 10 does not have a Raw Codec to enable you to see the files natively in Windows 10. However, this might help: http://cs.olympus-imaging.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/download/software/codec/

I had to install something similar in order for Windows 10 to view my Panasonic Raw files.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. So I will need to install a viewer from the Olympus site that is compatible with Windows 10. My other concern is that the jpegs in Lightroom are not visible but when I look in the folder in explorer there they are. However, in Lightroom the raw file shows JPG as a side car file (whatever that means). I appreciate your help with this.

You can change that behavior by clicking Edit --> Preferences --> General tab --> Treat JPEGs next to RAW as separate files. Once that's checked, Lr will treat any new imports as two as separate files that can be edited separately. To get Lr to 'see' the jpgs on the already imported files, after making the preference change, right-click on the folder containing the images and click Synchronize Folder.
