video file formats in lightroom

I request the ability to catalog and play back more video file formats in lightroom. I previously used iPhoto to organize my photos and videos. I have switched to lightroom which is much better of course for photos. Unfortunately it does not let me import old videos I took of my family with old cameras that saved files in DV and MPEG2 format. iPhoto handled these video file formats without any problem. It is important to me to be able to catalog these video formats by date with star ratings and tags. I have to keep them in iPhoto for now to do this. I do not need to edit them in lightroom, just to view them. Also the video play back, even from new cameras like iPhone 6 or sony a7 is choppy and sluggish. It would be better if lightroom could open these video files in quicktime so they can play in good quality.

Re MPEG2 files, see this topic: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

In general, ever since video was introduced in LR 3, support for video has been incomplete, somewhat buggy, and unsatisfactory to many users.

If you mainly want to catalog your old videos, see the Video-Asset Management plugin and the Any File plugin. Both work the same way -- they make "proxy" JPEG sidecar files and import those into LR. They provide a command to open the files in whatever external player has been associated with their file type.
