Lightroom CC: very slow synchronization

I save psd files to my local PC hard drive. I then import a few of my best ones into LR CC. The files import fine, but they take up to 30 minutes per file to synchronize/backup to the Adobe cloud. I have a good broad band connection, and the initial raw photos I brought into LR synched very quickly. What gives?

In general, raw files are much smaller than Photoshop edited files.  If you look at a raw file and PSD in Finder/Explorer and compare the file sizes you may find the answer to your question.

Example: A Canon 5D Mark IV raw file is about 30 MB. Load that into a Photoshop file and put a few layers on it and it can quickly swell to 200-300 mb. I have some files that are over a 1 GB in size.  They sync a magnitude slower than the raw files because they are a magnitude larger in size on disk.

Is there a way to prevent particular files in LR from backing up to the cloud?

In Lightroom CC everything is sent to the cloud. To prevent its being in the cloud you would need to exclude it from the Lightroom CC catalog entirely.

You can mitigate this somewhat by making certain you keep your Photoshop edits tight and free from superfluous additional layers that will expand the file size.
