I've been trying to use the vertical text option, but it is NOT working right. Instead of typing up or down, like it is supposed to and how every other tutorial or example shows, when I click the vertical text option it writes the text sideways and down!

Nothing I do or try to find on the internet is helping. I just want to use the dang vertical text tool. Is there an option to change this that I simply can't find? Please, HELP !!!

Howdy Sarah,

If you're getting text appearing at a 90 degree angle instead of up and down when you're using the Vertical Text tool, then you've almost certainly (accidentally) switched from the (standard) European/East Asian text engine to the Middle Eastern/Southeast Asian one.  These engines handle vertical text differently as they appeal to different linguistic regions and standard.  You can switch between them by clicking Preferences > Type and in the upper right, switching the radio button under Choose Text Engine Options.  If you're curious, here are two other videos of mine on the topic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfuw7m5mVTk and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17gM33tB1Hw.

Hope that helps,
David
