For some reason, Elements cannot connect to Adobe's servers.
There is a chance it was due to a server outage, or network problem - but that would last an hour or so, not several days.
This could be due to bad firewall software on your system, or bad entries in the system host table (like providing a bad address for adobe.com).

See Jeffrey's troubleshooting reference above. Most of the time it turns out to be something misconfigured in the system hosts file, or a temporary issue on the local network.

Ray,
Do you have a firewall blocking the connection?

I have exact same problem. When I try to launch the editor it comes up and asks me to sign in, so I do and then it comes up with a window saying;

'Connect to the internet to validate your serial number.'

When I click 'Validate' in the bottom of this window, it shows a loading icon then nothing happens.

I have let photoshop through windows firewall but that does not help.

Please help!

Did you check your firewall and make sure Adobe.com is added to your host file?

This troubleshooting document should help: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/po...

Reinstalled Elements 12 every time I try to open it it asks me to sign in and when I try to sign in it receive an error that I'm not connected to the internet. I've tried changing the host file as mentioned on this link http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/po.. which in mentioned above..and rebooted and still having the same problem. I'm not able to open PSE 12 on one on my computers. I have the same internet security installed on both computers and the other one works just fine.

I reinstalled the software because it won't launch the editor. Is there something else to try?

Yes. Get the next version because 12 is a dud and Adobe support does not seem willing or able to address uniformly even though thousands of us are describing the same problem.
