Use of colon locks up Lightroom.

I found a bug in Lightroom 5. When shooting tethered, and naming the files, if a colon was used in the file name, the program would cease to function, and lock up during tethered import. After a heartbreaking day of trying to fight through a volume shoot day, we were able to find this fault once we returned to our studio. So, lesson learned, no colons in the name. Like "Barrett Group 4:30 PM". Big bad news for Lightroom.

On Windows, at least, a colon is a special character that separates a drive letter or device name from a file path, so if I try to create a file called "4:30" I will get an error saying that the device is not found, where it is looking for a device named "4" and a file or folder named "30".

Examples of colon usage on Windows would be c:\Users as the path to the top-level Users folder, or LPT1: as the device name of the first printer port. Both of these naming conventions are from the 1980s onward for PCs.

I have never used a Mac so do not know if a colon can be used the same as any other non-special character or if it too has a special mean on a Mac.

If it is Ok to use on a Mac, then maybe there should be special coding that allows a colon for a name on a Mac but not on a PC, or at least gives an error message that makes sense so you at least understand specifically what is not liked rather than some generic error message that seems more like a general failure of LR or your computer.

MacOS also still frequently treats a colon as a directory separator (from old MacOS 9 days).
