Lightroom Classic: Upgraded iMac and Dehaze Diisappeared

Just upgraded my desktop to a new iMac Pro 27. I was using a 2013 iMac 21.5. I thought I had the same LR. vers. 6.12. migrated over. My photos come up OK. But I noticed that DEHAZE is now missing from Effects. I use Dehaze a lot with my underwater and landscape photos. I miss it.

On the other hand, I have been following the comments about LR Classic vs the new LR and read lots of problems. I feel no desire to do any mobile computing or cloud computing. I travel the world time to time and I like sitting at my desk and editing when home. So I am not a candidate for all the problems people report with no benefit to me.

Help!

LR 6, licensed with a serial number, has never had Dehaze.

LR CC 2015 is the same program, licensed with a CC subscription, and it does have Dehaze, since CC 2015.1.

LR Classic CC is the next version of LR desktop after 6/CC 2015 and has a 7 version series.

LR CC is a cloud-based product that doesn't quite have all the features of the desktop.

What subscription do you have?

If you have a current CC subscription, either for the Photographers Plan $10/mo) or the full suite ($50/mo) , then you should be offered both LR Classic CC and LR CC, which would install the version 7 series if your OS is new enough.

One thing to understand is that you cannot just migrate the program over using Apple tools.  You need to install a fresh copy on your new computer and relicense it with your serial number.

It's possible to pay for a year's subscription through third-parties like Amazon - is that what you've been doing Jonathan?

When you say you migrated, was this through the migration assistant built into macOS? I wonder if that's created some licensing problems.

I bought your book too in both paperback and pdf. Happy that I did. Now how do you download the book?

Everyone is correct. 6.12 does not have dehaze. Somehow I have 5.12 again for which I am grateful.

Any advice whether I should upgrade to Classic? I am under some pressure to complete a travel book of underwater photos and marine bio.

Thanks!

5.7.1 was the highest version of the LR 5 series, so there is no version 5.12 you could have installed.  I suspect you have LR CC 2015.12 and have Dehaze back, so you can continue your work.

What does Help / System Info... show for the version number, the very top line of the main Info area:

At some point you should probably install LR Classic CC (7.x) and see how well it works for you on your new computer, and if you're having issues, ask over here, in a new thread.

Assuming you are successfully running LR CC 2015.12 on your new computer, installing and running LR Classic CC will convert a copy of your old LR CC 2015 database and use that as it's starting point, so you can always go back to wherever you were with LR CC 2015, but of course the work you do in LR Classic CC won't be in the LR CC 2015 catalog.

It's entirely up to you whether you want to complete your photobook in LR CC 2015.12 or LR Classic CC 7.x.  It probably depends on whether the new version installs and operates normally or not, which should be easy to determine in the first few minutes, I'd expect.

Hi Jonathan, sorry, I've been off the forum because of the book launch. Did you get that sorted?

When you say you have LR 6.12, I think you mean you have LR CC 2015.12.  The program's the same but the licensing and thus the feature-set is different between 6 and CC 2015.  Until we can get a precise answer as to the actual name of the product on your computer, what it calls itself, (Help -> Sys Info) then those of us trying to help will be spinning our wheels at the starting gate.  If you insist on calling what you have or had installed LR 6.something then we're done, because LR 6 never had Dehaze, and even if you have LR CC 2015, it may be the .0 version which also didn't have Dehaze, yet.

How did you get LR on the new computer?   Did you transfer it using a migration process or did you install a fresh copy?

Dehaze will be missing until  you have a CC-subscription-licensed version of LR CC 2015.1+ or LR Classic CC (v7) on your computer.  If everything is up-to-date in your OS on the new computer then LR Classic CC is probably what you should install, and what will be offered by default, but I think you can click the little arrow next to the blue Install button and it should say Other Versions, and you can install LR CC 2015.  It may be the .0 version and require updating to the .12 version, which could be why it doesn't have Dehaze.

You can clear up this uncertainty by doing Help -> Sys Info and providing the version it shows.

Otherwise, when you open the Adobe Creative Cloud app on your computer, what LR options do you see?  A pair of LR options should be a few apps down from Photoshop at the top:

Obviously there are some choices to be made: (1) happily use what I have (which does not appear to have any or many problems; (2) upgrade to Classic; (3) buy LR 6 which is available commercially and while waiting for Classic to be rock solid. I really care about my photo editing productivity and work flow, so the expert advice of you pros and aficianados would be gratefully heard.

Can you just do what Steve suggested - "You can clear up this uncertainty by doing Help -> Sys Info and providing the version it shows."

Just the first lines are enough. Help people to help you.
