Updated Oc 2017, LR CLASSIC CC, scrolling images in filmstrip is laggy and main screen image delayed

  • Updated 1 year ago

When forward scrolling the filmstrip, after moving across a few images, a small coloured spinning wheel appears and the image scrolling freezes.  Also the borders blank out sometimes.  This issue was not apparent in the previous version of CC.

My computer - imac late 2014 5k, 32RAM, $GHz, 1TB ssd   Radeon R9 M295X

Folder contains 3000 images - mixture of full size RAWs from D4s and D850

GPU performance is ticked

"use smart previews ,,," is ticked

Looking at activity monitor during this issue CPU load up to 40%,  Memory is hardly touched.

Anyone any ideas for a fix?

Thanks in advance

I'm having this same performance problem, too, on a 2016 Touch Bar MacBook Pro. Was not a problem in previous version of Lightroom.

Hi, the problem with the lag now appears to have vanished. I had the Graphic Processor on all the time, but I think "generating" the smart previews for 3000 RAW (some from D850 at 47MP) files requires time to complete this task and hence during that generating period there was some sort of 'clash' causing LR to slow down.   Well that's my theory.  Am going to bed now but be interesting to see what you think?

Yep, that would make perfect sense Kitmin, or sync to the cloud perhaps.

actually the lag is still present when I am dealing with 2-4000 photos of RAW in LR classic cc.  The spinning coloured wheel appears before you can see the next image in the library (FULL single image being displayed).  The lag decreases when the thumbnails are smaller.  My MacBook is spec'd to the hilt for a 2016 usb c touchbar model.  I do find the lag now slower than the previous version of LR.  Anyone else finding the same?

I'm not generating any previews but I still often have unusable lagginess. Happened again this morning but I hadn't done anything with the computer all night. It went away after about a minute of trying to scroll through the library.
