The Macintosh Lightroom update link for version 6.5.1 on http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2013/06/keeping-lightroom-up-to-date.hthml is not for 6.5.1 but for 6.5.0.

My comment refers to the Macintosh link -- not windows. The computer downloaded it from the link on the page shown in your reply, but the one under "Macintosh Updates" labeled "Lightroom 6.5.1". When Lightroom is running, the "About Adobe Lightroom" states "Version 6.5 Camera Raw 9.5". In the Finder, Get Info states "Version Adobe Lightroom [1067055]".

Both links are wrong, Windows and Mac.  You had already mentioned about the Mac link, so I illustrated that the Windows link was also wrong.  Hopefully someone from Adobe fixes this.

If you're wanting to download the xxx.5.1 patcher, then  you can use the link over on this page:

Thank you! Not only is the link for the 6.5.1 update, but it actually updates my installed Lightroom. (In the past, LR6 updates have required that I delete LR, re-install from disk, then apply the patch. This was a piece of cake!) Thanks again!

With LR 6, the LR 6.0 is a full installer almost 900MB in size.  The rest of the updates x.0.1 until now, are just patch installers, about 200MB in size.

Every update since .0 was supposed to patch the current version.  If you had to uninstall and reinstall then something was wrong.  At least it works, now, it sounds like.

I agree, something was wrong. The experience has been the same on two different computers for all updates, and in all updates, there were multiple tries. The suggestion to uninstall first came from https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2077576
