Why do my brushes keep deleting from CS5 and why can I not use "define brush preset?" I am deeply dissatisfied with this product.

Brushes don't delete on their own -- you have to delete them or replace them yourself. The only way you could lose brushes is if you have a problem on your system that prevents it from saving preferences (thus losing brushes when you exit Photoshop) -- and that's usually a permissions error, and should display a warning when you exit Photoshop.

Define brush preset works from a selection -- it won't work if you don't have a selection, if the selection is empty, or if the selection is larger than the maximum brush size. All of this is explained in the manual.

Well, tell you what: I will reload my brushes again tonight. I will use photoshop tonight, tomorrow and for a few more days. And each time I am done, I will close photoshop. My brushes will be intact for approximately 6 uses, then the next time I open, I will have to re-install every single one of them from my back up files. And that time I close it when the brushes leave my palette? NO WARNING DIALOG.
I had absolutely no issues with CS3 and CS4.

AND! I do believe that my pixel ratio was indeed too big to make my brush preset - I thought of that after I left work today and you just confirmed that I need to slap my forehead now!

I am having the exact same problems as this lady regarding the disappearing brushes! I have installed a TON of brushes and it takes hours and hours to reinstall them all! I am so frustrated I could scream!!! Today was the 5th time I've lost my brushes and I've NEVER had a warning dialog when closing Photoshop! If it's a permission error is it within Photoshop? I don't know what to do anymore! I can't continue to reinstall these brushes every couple of days! I REALLY need help! Oh, and it doesn't happen every time I close Photoshop, just every few days.

I am running Windows 7, have Photoshop CS5 and an up to date Norton Security Suite. I don't know if there is any other information that would be helpful to you.

Gloria, I ended up saving the brush palette each time I add new brushes. Then when they delete, I just load the palette from the location I saved them to. I think it is crazy that I have to do this, but it sure saves a lot of time and stress! Cyndi

I made a signature brush and it showed up in the brush palette that was active at that time. But when I changed brush palettes, the signature brush disappeared from every palette, including the one that was active when I first made the brush. It was nowhere to be found. Help!!

Did you save that brush preset to a file?

Presets are only saved in preferences until you save them to a file - and if you replace the current presets, then anything unsaved is lost.
