Photoshop: How do I undo 'flatten' image?

I was working on an image & flatten it by mistake - now how do i unflatten it. HELP

If you didn't hit SAVE, you can go to the History panel and click on a state before "Flatten Image" appears.

The History panel appears collapsed by default, it's the little box on the right of the screen under the one that has "Mb" on it. It has 3 boxes with a curved arrow pointing up. If it's not there, go to Window > History

The default number of states (set in Preferences) is 20, so you may only be able to go back that far.

If you flattened more than 20 steps ago, just quit without saving.
