If you discovered that Undo or (Command Z) and Step Back (Shift command Z) is not working on your Nehalem Mac Pro running Adobe CS6 (Photoshop and others) once you updated to Yosemite 10.10.5, then here is what you need to know and do.

What you need to know is that Finder and Spotlight in Yosemite (and Mavericks) is BROKEN.
Thing is, it is not "entirely" broken, it just doesn't work correctly for a "Computer User".
A "computer user" is NOT an internet junkie or a social site psychopath.
If you are one of the "typical" computer users, you will find that Finder and Spotlight suits your internet uses just fine.
However.... if you are a "Computer User", you are suffering.

Regardless of any debate those statements may illicit, your Adobe CS6 has been made disabled by the flaws in Finder and Spotlight.
This is not about opinions, this is a technical fact.

The following assumes that you have left the Yosemite install in its Default Preferences state and have installed Yosemite from a previous OSX.
(please note that I did Not specify any version of CC and DO specify a fully updated CS6)

The problems experienced need not ALL be listed, but to demonstrate the problem lets pick Photoshop Color Range, a widely used tool.
Open an image and use the Color Range tool from the Select menu.
Make a selection, then click the + option to make another selection.
Now attempt to Undo (Command Z) the last selection.
This will not work.
Since the following options explained below may vary, repeat the above steps and then use your mouse to look at the Edit menu while Color Range is active.
You will see that Undo (Command Z) is grayed out.
The Color Range tool has ALWAYS allowed one Undo step and the Undo has NEVER been grayed out in any previous version of OSX when using the Color Range tool.
That is a serious Bug that prevents correct operation of Photoshop.
What happened????

Here is what happened.
The flaws and bugs in Finder and Spotlight have technically HIJACKED your Keyboard Shortcut Keys. (this only appears in Yosemite and the list of bugs is quite long)

Spotlight is now attached to the internet with an unbreakable tether and it is this mindless design that has caused the problem. (a Bug)

Now for the solution.

1. Go to system preferences.
2. Choose Keyboard.
3. Select Shortcuts tab.
4. Choose Spotlight.
5. Uncheck all in window.
6. Choose button "Text boxes and lists only".

Now relaunch Photoshop and see if Undo using the Color Range tool now allows Undo. (problem solved!)
This is NOT a 100% fix.
This does help those who have this problem.
(I have seen this problem reported in various forms)
Repeat.... this references Nehalem Mac Pro running Yosemite 10.10.5.
I cannot comment on other Apple hardware systems.

Please note....
I forgot to specify that this problem occurs with both the "A" and "B" versions of Apple WIRED aluminum Keyboards.

(there are 2 versions of Apple wired Keyboard easily identified by the F4 key, "A" version has a Meter symbol, "B" version has six little squares)

I have NOT verified the existence of this Bug with wireless keyboards.
