I have been using Lightroom 3.0 for about 1 year. Last night I was working on a picture and the computer froze. Now when I try to open Lightroom it attempts to open the catalog to the picture I was working on and then gives an error message. Help

Backup you catalog first, via (Copy it ), then upgrade Lr 4.0 to Lr 4.3
Mac, http://www.adobe.com/support/download...
Win, http://www.adobe.com/support/download...

And open your catalog again. see if the problem can be resolved?

If the problem still there, please put the error message here.

I downloaded the 3.3 and the same thing happened. Lightroom doesn't open up at all jut puts a bar across my screen that says Lightroom - opening catalog:DSC_0036.NEF.lrcat

Are you having backed up you catalog?
Try opening the backup catalog.

"DSC_0036.NEF.lrcat" IS THIS REALLY YOUR CATALOG. I'm asking because nthis sounds more like a RAW-NIKON-File with lrcat extension

It is a photo. The problem is I can't even open Lightroom. When I click on Lightroom to open the program, it is attempting to open the DSC_0036.NEF

Please try to move lightroom preferences to other place, and launch Lr again, then use Menu->File-OpenCatalog to open your catalog again.

Mac:
/Users/YOUR_USER_ACCOUNT/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom3.plist

Win:
C:\Users\YOUR_USER_ACCOUNT\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\Lightroom 3 Preferences.agprefs

Did you try starting LR while pressing Crtl-Shift and select the proper catalog. You also will have the choice marking a specific catalog as your default catalog.
