I am unable to open Adobe Photoshop. I only get a message that tells me 'Could not initialize Photoshop because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered'.

Which version of Photoshop?
What OS version?
And have you tried resetting Photoshop's preferences?

I have Photoshop CC 2014.I have no idea how to find the version, and I have looked for it. I also tried deleting and reinstalling the program and I still have the same problems. And how do you reset Photoshop preferences if you can't open the program? Thanks!

What OS version are you using?
To reset the prefs, you can either use command-alt-shift while launching the app, or just trash the Photoshop preferences directory.

I believe I already replied. I am using Windows Vista on a Toshiba laptop with the maximum memory RAM available, and a new harddrive. It can't be the program itself because it always worked up to this point. I have done what you recommended (ctrl-alt-shift) in a variety of circumstances. I have tried deleting the program and reinstalling it. It must be something I am doing wrong but I haven't a clue what it could be. I ran a full system scan on my computer and discovered that 3 of the 4 cores on my processor have quit working. But all the other programs I have downloaded work without the error. The thing is my work depends on having Photoshop available to me, and now I am reaching a deadline for a job that I am supposed to be finishing so we can go to print on a book. I think you can see our old cover if you go to www.epetermathews.com/dollar-democracy. Thanks!

Can I download Elements and at least have some of the features available?Otherwise I will have to fall back on an old ArcSoft program or something I can find.
