I am using Photoshop 5.5 and have done so for many years without problems. suddenly, when I try to open files which I have previously created and viewed successfully, I am unable to do so and get a message saying "too many layers". How do i overcome this?

Howdy John,

Wow!  Photoshop 5.5?  Really?  That software is 18 years old!  What OS are you running on?  I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were some serious conflicts with any operating system since Windows ME...  If you could share your details, I'll try to help.

Thanks,
David

Hi David

Thank you for your reply. The OS is Windows 8.1 which I have been using with Adobe for about 2 years without problems. Anything else you need to know, just let me know.

Best regards

John

Howdy John,

I assume that you've already tried to reset your Photoshop preferences on launch?  If not, then that would absolutely be my first step!

Does this happen with ALL files or only certain files?  Did a later version of Photoshop operator on those files?

Thanks,
David

p.s. -- I'm honestly amazed to hear that PS 5.5 can run on such a modern OS.  Makes me feel good; that was my first version on the team  8-)
