Express: Unable to open file on iPad

I can no longer open pictures. I get an error message saying 'error - unable to open file'. I have done an update but the problem is still the same. Something has happened in the last few weeks.

Also, reading comments from other people about this same issue has made me realise that I bought features in the old original PSE and I no longer have access to them.

Sort all this out please or I'll be asking for my money back.

Which version of Elements are you using?
Which OS version?

What is the exact error message you receive when you open a file?

Hello Chris

It's actually PS Express that isn't working - on my iPad. I don't know where the reference to Elements came from. A lot of people are apparently having the same issue. I am unable to open any jpeg images, I just get the error message.

You said PSE - which is a common way of referring to Photoshop Elements.

That's another week gone by and no response regarding this problem. I am still unable to use this app as it refuses to open any JPEG images. I would like my money back if this is not going to be fixed.

I have the same issue and it started happening after I upgraded to the latest iOS version on my iPhone 5S. I can open any pic taken prior to that upgrade but none taken after.

Hi Michele
I've been doing some experimenting myself and it looks like I can open files that are in 'events' and from previous imports, but nothing from my photo stream. I haven't had chance yet to see if I can open new photos just added, but all the ones that opened were already on my iPad. I'll try that next. I think I may have upgraded my iPad OS recently so that could be the problem.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Express: 'unable to open file' on iPad.

I upgraded my iPhone 5S to the latest iOS and since that upgrade, I've been unable to open pictures taken on my iPhone via Express on my iPad. I get an "error: unable to open file" message. I have no problem opening pictures taken prior to the iOS update. I've deleted and reinstalled The Express app, with no success.

Pls let me know what the issue is? Thanks.

So the moderators merged my question above into this topic, which is fine as it appears to be the same issue, but it'd be nice if they actually provided an answer...

It would indeed be nice to get an answer. There must be a lot of people with the same issue. It does look like it could be an Apple issue however. The developers of PS Express need to talk to the developers at Apple me thinks.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Why can't I use Express to edit pictures in my photo stream on my iPad mini3?.

Get an error message that Photoshop can't open files from Photo stream

I'm a longtime Snapseed user but finally tried Express and LOVED the results. It does exactly what I want to enhance my iOS photos and does it with ease. HOWEVER... when I tried to pull in a file from Photostream it balked and I received the same error message everyone here is experiencing. This really changes everything for me. 95% of my editing is done on Photostream files on my iPad from iPhone photos previously taken and automatically uploaded to Photostream. Since I'm new here I don't know if this is a bug or some sort of design constraint that precludes editing Photostream files???

So, still no answers to this problem. It must surely be affecting an awful lot of people. There have been no answers on this forum from the Photoshop developers, it's all gone very quiet.... Any sort of answer would be nice. At the moment my version of PS Express is of no use.

Yes indeed, they do seem to have fixed it. Good news. Shame they couldn't communicate a little better.

Which update solved the problem?

The new iOS 8.1.3 or an update to photoshop express itself?
