Photoshop: Two major issues with artboards

Hey. So, even with the latest update the artboards are still rough and feel like a prosthetic limb attached to a healthy body. They kinda work, but not they way you'd expect them. Not even the way they work in AI. My main two problems at the moment are:

1. Performance of PS decreases staggeringly when I try to use two or three artboards in the same document. Ones with, say, 3 desktop designs and 3 mobile designs are impossible to navigate and move things around in (i'm using a 2015 MBP).

2. The way artboard management works right now is broken. First of all that '+' icon that allows users to add a board on the side of the existing one is sticked to the middle of the artboard and doesn't follow viewport. Highly impractical when working with long mobile designs. Secondly, when i.e. you have two artboards and you duplicate the leftmost one, guess where the duplicate ends up being? On top of the rightmost one. Not on the side of it but on top of it. Then you have to go and move it manually. When there's more than 3 artboards, moving them around is an enormous pain as the viewport jumps randomly trying to accommodate them all. Hectic.

Generally I wish PS embraced all these facts, stopped pretending it's a design tool and just did things it meant to do - retouch photos. And we'd have a pimped up Adobe XD where you'd just...design interfaces.

Yes, Adobe has been in the habit lately of releasing mostly unfinished tools. Artboards, Export As, Generate Assets, Select and Mask all started as great ideas, but they've been largely abandoned and not refined/finished. It's really become quite frustrating as i would love to use these tools, but they generally slow down my workflow instead of enhancing it.

@Dmitrij, For #1 I'd like you to try something for me to see if we can isolate the problem. For the document you describe, I'd like you to note the performance of the documents with the artboards in it. Second, please select each artboard in the layers panel and right click>Ungroup Artboards. Once you've done this for all artboards, please note the performance. Is there any difference in the performance?

For #2, one thing that can help avoid the "stacked" situation is to duplicate the artboard by alt/opt clicking the + icon next to the artboard. But we definitely need to fix the issue you detail when using the "duplicate artboard" menu item. Thanks for reaching out!

Hey Joel. I will try the steps you've mentioned.

I'm now basically stuck on loading my PSD which has 5 artboards (mostly 1440x900ish) with absolutely no raster imagery. The PSD itself is 63mb and loaded in about 6min. After that it took PS about 1.5min to zoom in to 100% and now 9min and counting to duplicate an artboard. I'm actually even afraid to start working on it.
