Photoshop: Text tool resets after I click out of it

Hi, I have two issues in Photoshop right now:
1. Every time I use the Type tool to modify the size or the font, once I click out of it it resets back to whatever it was. So, I have to repeat the same steps several times over until it stops.
2. I don't want to see the entire PATH to a file when I choose "Open Recent". It's cluttered and distracting. Can that be "optional" please? Thank you.

1) sounds a bit like a known bug in Apple's dictation code - turn off the dictation feature in the OS preferences

2) Yeah, known bug in Photoshop. The solution is already being tested.

Can you give us more detailed steps to reproduce your text issue? It sounds like you're trying to set your default text options, but I'd like to follow your steps to repro.

Howdy Lucia,

I haven't heard of the text issue that you're encountering before.  I do have a couple of quick questions about it.  First, does it happen with all files or only with specific ones?  And, secondly, does it involve any specific fonts?

I would love to see a video of the problem and would also be willing to do a web-hosted screenshare to help you troubleshoot the issue.

Thanks,
David

YES! It seemed like it did it with certain fonts at first(I have hundreds of fonts), but it does it on any document I work on, and it doesn't seem to be font dependent because it does it with any font I am using now.

Hi Lucia,

Hundreds (and even thousands) of fonts are cool, but are you sure of the integrity of these fonts?  Hacked up fonts can degrade your whole system and even trigger crashes.  You might want to run through the diagnostic steps here http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop-cs5.html in order to verify that your fonts are not part of the problem.

Thanks,
David

It goes like this:
1. I type something
2. I click on the layer
3. I click to turn that into a paragraph text
4. I click command+t + 0 to resize the paragraph box(which for some reason ALWAYS extends beyond the document)
5. then I click into the font box, and choose a font
6. then I want to change preferences to bold/italic etc to which as soon as I click it reverts back to whatever it was there when I first typed the text; sometimes it reverts me back all the way to point text
7. so I have to start over, and sometimes I have to repeat these steps 4, 5 times...
8. IF I convert the text to a smart object, it will revert me back to before I did that

It's very weird and it didn't start doing this until late September...(2014)

Here's a quick video, watch how it jumps back to what it was originally when I click inside the box surrounding the paragraph text:

There's something strange going on with application focus in your video.  This is NOT the normal behavior -- I just double-checked on both 10.10 and 10.9.

Now, that said, there's a couple things odd with what you're doing...

In your video, I didn't see you change single-line text to paragraph text.  Is that a required step for this problem?  What precise steps do you do for this?

CMD+T does not accept 0 has a variable.  If you press CMD+T you enter free transform (modal) mode and further shortcuts are largely disabled.

The reversion behavior is not reproducible and quite odd.  It's also acting as if focus is not correctly transferring between fields.  What version of Photoshop are you running?  Which Mac OS are you running?  Did you install anything that monitors keyboard or mouse actions?  What kind of keyboard and mouse are you using?  Did you install a tablet?

Something is clearly not right, but your setup does NOT resemble Photoshop out of the box and I strongly suspect the missing element(s) are the cause of these problems.

Thanks,
David

I am using an iMac, no attachments of any sorts. No tablet; just the Mac keyboard the iMac came with and my Logitech mouse.

OS 10.9.4 Did not do the upgrade yet because I don't know what's going to stop working like my Office'11 etc. I am running Photoshop CC14 up to date. I have a monthly subscription to the cloud.

Yeah, I have to resize the paragraph box because every time I convert the text to paragraph text, the box stretches outside of the document I am working on. I've been using Photoshop since version 5.5 in 1999, and the text box always did that.

I don't have to convert the text to paragraph to have this happen. It does it if I just leave it to point text.

I am just as puzzled as you are...and don't understand why the text keeps reverting back like that.

Howdy Lucia,

Let's tackle one piece of this at a time.  The resizing text box doesn't seem as serious to me as the text unformatting itself and losing focus.

Have you had the same Logitech mouse the whole time?

Would you be willing to do a web-hosted screenshare so I can see the problem live and try and play with your machine?  This would be a GREAT help in troubleshooting...  All you need is an internet connection and a phone line (the call is toll-free most anywhere in the world).

Thanks,
David

Ohh, if you're referring to the document opened, that's part of my 365 project so the Photoshop interface is my background, it's not doubled up somehow; see here:

That's what happens to any text I convert to paragraph! Since I first started using PS in 1998. Is there any way that this can be fixed?

I've had this Logitech(M510) for a very long time...I like it a lot, and it works great. The Apple mouse is too flat for my hand and it hurts using it after a while.

I can do the screen share between either 10 and 11:30, or after 3PM...whichever works best for you. Thank you.

Howdy Lucia,

Unfortunately, I'm working from home this morning, so I have limited availability.  But we could do a screenshare at 3pm EST (noon PST) so I can get some idea what's going on.  How does that sound?  I'll follow up with an email.

Thanks,
David

Hiya Lucia,

I think this issue got dropped over the holidays.  If you're still having the problem, I'm happy to look at it with you.  Please respond again to my email.

Thanks,
David
