Allow the option to 'by default' turn off the 'All Photos' tick box selection in the Import module. I rarely import 'all Photos' by default and it's a pain having to uncheck all items all the time.

good suggestion !!  ...  it can be done by one unselect all click ....  'by default' turn off ..   is a nice option.

Disagree,
My practice is to reformat camera cards (in camera) after every LR Import, so the next shoot I will want to Import all new images- by default!
So rarely do I de-select images in the Import dialog,

Sorry - to Clarify,
I agree with your practice when I am at home and just importing from one photo shoot at a time. I do the same. Import all photos and then format;
However I am on the road for 6 months and after 3 months i have had to modify my practice to fit my circumstances.

It is not practical for me to import after each location and format the cards due to time constraints on travelling and lack of power (travelling in a van for a month you don't always have power for the laptop) therefore i shoot multiple locations over the course of a week or so before import.
When i import i turn off the 'All photos' option and make a selection of photos to import based on their location or other criteria - I then add my Metadata and standard import settings etc based on the type of shoot and then import. When you are doing this for around 800 images each time over 5 or 6 different locations all with differing criteria and metadata - over the course of 3 months the 'All Photo's' tick box on by default suddenly stops becoming practical - therefore i would like the option to turn this tick box off by default.
When travelling i also do not format my memory cards after import - i rotate between three so that i have a copy on my laptop, my backup drive and always 2 memory cards with the last 2 shoots on them so that i have multiple backups stored in differing locations.

Hope this clarifies my request.

It does, and a default for you would be most useful!
but it is just one click of the mouse before you do all the selecting.
