I have a picture I am attempting to add text to.  Select the Text icon...put box there...font is white over black... pixel set up for pic....  Not only does it show me typing and what I typed on the top of the page (not the picture area) when I select the check mark but every icon on the left changes to say the text box!!  Won't close...use Task Manager to shut down...do again..try a different icon...and the same garbage...  Had problems before twice with my pictures not showing up and refreshed laptop...worked then stopped.  Got Adobe involved...they upgraded my video driver..(That is an issue in itself with Photoshop and should not happen as it worked fine before the Adobe patch/upgrade)and set my view to always be raw which I did not want so I always have to say OPEN IMAGE!(I already unchecked Raw as the opening device and it did not adhere to my selection) and now this...folks are trying to get me to move to a free software due to these problems and the cost to use the software per month is way too high.  So once again, something simple is having issues that it should not be having..it worked a couple of weeks ago and now not working. If I select a different icon...all of a sudden every icon on the left is now saying that.  What a mess.

Updating.  I rebooted my laptop, got 3 Adobe updates and Windows updates from last night.  Now can see the letters when I add them but the icons on the left all show the same picture for every icon, based on which icon I selected first.  The icon actually functions as it should but the picture is a bug, even after the 3 Adobe Cloud updates.

Seems the program got compromised. I would recommend to repair the program or do a reinstall.
