What version of Photoshop are you using? Are you on Win or Mac? Is your copy of Photoshop up to date? http://adobe.ly/PS-Up-To-Date

Have you tried restoring your prefs? http://adobe.ly/PS_Prefs

Where are you saving the file? To a local drive? Network volume? Have you tried saving to the desktop?

I'm running CS5.1 on OS X Lion and it's up to date.
Was saving to a folder in the Documents folder on my hard drive, but just tried saving to desktop with same result.
Have not had a problem with saving a PDF until tonight.
Thanks for your help

Anything change between the last time you could save and tonight? (install any other software, 3rd party plug-ins, fonts, etc)

If you create a new document and save as PDF will it work? Or is it related to a specific document?

The error can be fixed by going into preferences - type and changing the text engine in Photoshop CS6. I changed mine from East Asian to Middle Eastern. This will solve all of your problems.

Hi adobe, found a solution. It is as if the fault lies in a layer, I delete layer one by one, so I could find the layout that was "not working". After it was removed I could save the image. I recreated the layer ( copy it, a path color) and put exactly the same settings and then the image could be saved.
So there's definitely a bug hidden in photoshop cs 6 layers master plan :) , let's get it fixed :)

Can you send us a copy of the document that caused that error? (by saving to another format, or if it has the problem right after opening an older file)

Unfortunately I can not send you the file, because I can not save it with the error. nor is it possible to save in other formats or move layers into another file.

it has happened before with another file. Both times it is when I have a lot of layers. I'll try to watch next time.

Should I write here or is there a more direct line of contacting you? You are more then welcome to call me (little easier than writing)

I have got the same Problem. System is Win7 64x and CS6 Master is installed.
I tried to build up a new file step by step. The problem occures when I move a group with al layer mask that includes one layer, with a unlinked layer mask. folder mode is set to "pass through" -see the red marked layers in the screenshot.
If i flatten the grouped layers by clicking STRG+E, it is possible to save the file.

I opened the file by clicking on the "Edit-button" in the "links"-palette in Indesign.
I had that Problem yesterday the first time... may it be an indesign/photoshop-thing?

I had a very similar issue when saving as a PSD but couldn't save to the main hard drive or external. I tried the Preferences changes above with no luck. Thanks to Jan above, I started looking at my folders and I was able to figure out the culprit. I had a folder with an unlinked mask inside another folder with an unlinked mask which contained an Adjustment Layer and several other layers. To fix, I linked them both and I was able to save right away. Another option I tried was converting the unlinked folders to a Smart Object which also allowed me to save. Hopefully this helps someone else out with a similar situation!

I'm having this same problem, (unable to save because of program error). The weird thing is... it's only when I work from this one specific external drive. My two other drives with photos, no problem. I am working in Photoshop CS6, Late 2009 Imac running Mountain Lion. I have to force-quit Photoshop anytime I work from this drive.
Please help... anyone who might have answer. I am losing work time alsso.
Thanks

I've been having the same issue.. I found somewhat of a solution for the time being to save my file- save my files as a PDF, - I just merged all the layers into one and saved as a PDF.

If someone has a solution or the fix for the bug, please contact me!

Found this in the error log:

Hi Lynn,

Would you happen to have a copy of the file that was giving you trouble still? I'd to take a look at it.

Thanks,
David

I upgraded from Photoshop CS2 to CS6 extended (Cloud). I'm running Windows 8. A file that I consistently used as a base for advertisements on CS2 will not save as a pdf on CS6. It will let me make changes and save as PSD and Tiff. I tried changing the 'color conversion' selection on the Save as PDF dialogue window from "Convert to destination" to "No Conversion" and it saves. I don't know if the newspaper will take it this way (really don't understand what this conversion is doing). All my software is legit and I am authorized (single user).

I changed the language format in the EDIT>Preferences>Type from East Asia to Middle Eastern

That solved the problem. I've read that solution somwhere in the web... maybe another adobe forum.. I don't rememeber.
That causes a warning if I open a psd-file with a different language-type-preset.... but it works fine (for me).

Had the same problem and found that a Gradient Fill (adjustement layer) was causing it. It had a mask and when the mask was disabled saving was OK but when enabled it was causing saving error. The solution was to unlink the layer mask. Rasterizing the gradient fill is an other way but takes away the possibility to edit it later on.

Edit: Version CS6 running on 64bit Windows 7. Intel i7 with 12gb RAM

For anyone that may come across this page, I found the following way to avoid the error.

Group all your layers to a single folder, then duplicate that group to a new document, isolate layer visibility (make that a simple layer no Layer Fx or masks, etc.) then save to the deskop with an untitled name. If that doesn't work try isolating a different layer and repeat.

After this saves out, open Ps again, then open the file, then overwrite or re-save with the name you had before.

Btw isolate layer being alt click the visibility eye for your layer, this hides all other layers. Alt click again to turn on the other eyes again.

I stumbled across this looking for a solution to my "Could not complete your request because of a program error" message. I'm running CS4 on Win XP (yes, a few of us do still exist...) and get this message sometimes when attempting to save.

Most recently, I opened several photos to resize them for uploading to a website. I made no other edits and each file contained only a single layer. I tried save as to a different folder, tried with different files, same result every time. I also checked out my preferences to try the text engine solution mentioned above, but CS4 doesn't appear to have that option within the Preferences -> Type menu.

Any help fixing this would be great.

Check if you have any texts in a single font layer with various font size. If so, divide those into separate font layers, so each font layer have solid font size.

That helped in my case anyway.
