Lightroom: Trouble exporting JPG photos with Keywords attached to file after export

Hi, I am trying to export some photos with Key Words attached but am having great difficulty. I have keywords associated with my pictures and notice that even though I have done the following they do not show up outside of Lightroom. What I am trying to do is back up my photos to a CD and/or other harddrive and have keywords available to others when I sent out photos.

The problem is when I go to import the same file, Lightroom wants to import it without the keywords (because they apparently didn't make the trip during export!) and I want those keywords in there so if I ever have to restore (without my catalogue!) plus if I send out pictures to others my keyword information would be in the file. I am working with mostly JPG files.

I have gone into
EDIT METADATA PRESETS and created a preset (Export with ALL IPTC Metadata) which selects ALL the IPTC data (including keywords).

I have also selected FILE/EXPORT, to a folder on my desktop, selected my preset (Export with ALL IPTC Metadata) which includes,
File Settings Format: JPG and/or Original (tried both!),

After I have exported I open up the file in Windows Explorer and check the summary where it shows, Title/Subject/Author, Category and KEYWORDS/comments but nothing is showing in any of those boxes as I would expect.

I also went into EDIT/CATALOGUE SETTINGS/METADATA and selected (Automatically write changes into XMP) so it would be already be done for future photos.

Once again I just want to export JPG photos with Keywords attached so that I can see those Keywords outside of Lightroom by any other program. My brother has sent me email photos that I have imported into Lightroom and I can see his Keywords which have been automatically imported to Lightroom. I want to export and then be able to import and see the same keywords appear likewise. Thanks for your help and expertise with this problem. Pete

Make sure your keywords are exportable (Include on Export is checked in keyword tag properties).

Note: @Lr3.5, *all* keywords in a hierarchy must be exportable for the "chain" to be exported.

Also, if your goal is to have keywords in most universally compatible format, deselect "write keywords as Lightroom Hierarchy".
