Photoshop: Transform Controls Disappear

After I have been working in this file for some time, the bounding box and transform controls on the layer cease to show up when I select the move tool.

I have the move tool selected and show transform controls checked. If I move to another open file then I see the transform controls. Also if I close and reopen the file then the controls show up again.

Which OS?

Have you updated your video card drivers?

Have you tried disabling OpenGL drawing in Photoshop's preferences?

OSX Lion

Have not tried updating video card drivers. I will try disabling the openGL drawing the next time it happens. It is weird because it has happened more than once, but I usually just reopen the file and continue on working.

I had the same thing after I changed the desktop background to gray 128, the transform guides were also 128... simple to fix change the transform guides to another colour or change background colour to default... good luck

ctrl H didn't used to hide the transform controls. Why do they now with the latest release?  Frustrating!

Do you have a screen shot of what you're seeing? Is it possible you just have "Show Transform Controls" turned on? Or View > Show > Layer Edges enabled?

The wife has just had the same thing, but strangely control H was not the answer. I am a bit more advanced than her and checked ALL the normal suspects but to no avail, I did a quick test on some text over both background image and layer image pasted into a new document.
Strangely the transfer control came back when the text layer was selected. If I then selected the image again the control magically appears. All with NO tool or menu adjustments... WTF is going on?

What version of Photoshop? Windows or Mac? Possibly a GPU driver issue?

So frustrating! They continue to make major changes without notification. UGH! Its always fun to explain to your client and boss why your work isnt finished that you had to spend hours troubleshooting...

All of a sudden today my free transform bounding box disappeared. I've read through a bunch of this and none of the suggestion work. Even when I place something the transform bounding box doesn't appear (attached screenshot). Please help!

Hi, I have this issue dating a few days ago, I'm using Photoshop CS5 in Mojave with the accessibility ON...suddenly the paintbrushes and the arrows of the control panels windows to increase/decrease are blurred or just an irregular figure...Any ideas are welcome, thanks.

I'm having the same problem, with any kind of layer/file. Transformation Controls not showing even though all the boxes are ticked.
I'm on Mac Mojave with the latest Photoshop CC 2019 installed.

I tried all of the following:
  • Ticking / Unticking / Ticking again Show Transformation Controls: didn't work
  • Ticking / Unticking / Ticking again Show Extra: didn't work
  • Opening an existing RGB document or new RGB document, first thing as soon as I start Photoshop: nothing
  • disabling OpenGL drawing in Photoshop's preferences: nothing
It's unbelievably frustrating to work without Transform Controls/Bounding boxes, the most I could do was to get Layers Edges to show (View > Show > Layer Edges), but that still doesn't help when trying to transform layers.

I am thinking to go back to CC 2018!

The same thing just started happening with me too. No visible transform control (just a weird pink circle at the centrepoint.

It killed my afternoons work. Unfortunately CC2019 is junk. Do yourself a favour and re-download 2018 :(

I am having the same problem with Photoshop 2019. Absolutely infuriating. Have wasted nearly two days of a tight deadline working over public holidays trying to fix and am now going back to 2018. Nothing works. Have lost all transform bounding boxes no matter how often I shut down, reboot, reset tools... NOT HAPPY!

I just changed the mode from CMYK to RGB and the bounding boxes came back! I then switched it back to CMYK and the are still there so far!
